Chandinho Dedé

Name?
Santana, Ribeira Grande, Santiago, date?
Singer, composer
Living in the United States since 1986, Chandinho danced hip-hop and later became a DJ before recording his first album in 1995. Baybe Yella was based on his knowledge of what audiences enjoyed in nightclubs, blending different styles and experimenting with hip-hop and zouk, with aggressive lyrics. This first album was produced by Duka, who also produced most of the songs on Chandinho’s second album, Dog, released in 1996, featuring collaborations with Kim Alves and Norberto Tavares. Dog – which became his nickname – was a major commercial success.
This was followed by Sabi mé (1997), Dog 2 (1998), Dog 3 (2000), Midnight love (2001), and Ben li (2003). Doggy familia was released in 2005, with the participation of Iduíno, playing the harmonica, writing lyrics and arrangements. In addition to zouk and funaná, the album incorporates Haitian kompa and shows Chandinho Dedé as a more mature and less irreverent artist, while remaining focused on music made to get people onto the dance floor.
Son of parents from Fogo and Santiago, Chandinho spent his childhood and teenage years in the Achada Santo António neighborhood of Praia. Tchada Love and Tchada Love 2 reflect this experience. His 2009 album, Santana, Praia… ti Mustero, is also autobiographical.
