Uprising

Group, 1993
The Uprising was a group formed by Cape Verdeans residing in Boston: Bardot (vocals), Julinho (vocals), Patchély and Rui (keyboards), Juvenal e Gentil (managers). They are joined by Calu di Guida (guitar) and Galvão (bass), from the extinct La Tour, and also Adriano (vocals) and Jorge (drummer). They began to be successful among the Cape Verdean community and soon recorded their first album, Paranoia. In 1995 they were invited to participate in the festivities of the 20th anniversary of Cape Verde Independence, performing in Holland, Switzerland and Portugal.
The second album, Rabentola, came in 1996. At that time the keyboard players Duka (also in arrangements), and Tony joined the group. The album also includes the participation of Kim Alves, Mizé Badia, Lutchinha and Titita, among others. At a certain point some elements left the group, which interrupted their activities for ten years.
In 2009, Gentil, Bardot and Julinho decided to reactivate the Uprising, with the collaboration of Mark G., César Lima and Djack, and released the album Nós é campion. The repertoire focused on danceable rythms: funana, zouk, koladeras. After the revival in 2009 there was no further news from the group.
