Skyliners Big Band
Group, 1930
The Skyliners Big Band was formed in 1930, as a dance section of the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club (which was not a lounge band but rather a band of street performances, in parades and commemorative events), according to A Salute to the Cape Verdean Musicians and Their Music (1989), work of Ron Barboza.
Joe Livramento will have integrated both, according to the article “ Glórias do Passado, Orgulho do Presente”, by Carlos Spínola in www.bravanews.com (12.01.2009), no longer available online. It is one of several formations created by Cape Verdeans in the golden period of big bands, and George Azevedo and Frank Monteiro were also part of it, Monteiro being the leader of the band at one point.
