Quirino do Canto left the Fogo Island at an early age to study in São Vicente. From the island he went to the USA in 1963, where he completed high school and university, graduating in engineering, a profession he pursued in the country in the telecommunications field (Artiletra, March/April 2011).
Quirino do Canto, among other cultural activities, formed in 1979 the band Do Canto Brothers, with his brothers; he was a founding member of the group Matchona, which accompanied Djosinha in the 1980s, and later was linked to the groups Contratempo and Jam Band, according to data from the Brava News website.
Living in Brockton, after many years in Boston, he performs regularly in cultural activities of the Cape Verdean community in Massachusetts.
In 2009, Quirino do Canto was the one of the winners of the Da Mata Foundation Gala, which awards scholarships in Cape Verde.
