Jorge Matias Amado Dias

Carmona, Uíge, Angola, 1974

Instrumentalist (guitar), songwriter, singer

Djoy Amado emerged on the musical scene in Praia in the early 2000s, primarily as a songwriter. His works have been recorded by Mayra Andrade, Diva Barros, Maruka Tavares, Isa Pereira, and Heavy H, and others. He began his production career in the late 1990s after returning to Cape Verde following his studies in Political Science in Brazil, where he also began playing guitar.

As a performer, he is featured on the collective album Praia-Dakar Conexões, which also includes artists like Princezito, Tcheka and Neusa from the Terreru group, with two of his original songs. Prior to this, he had contributed to the choirs on Tcheka’s first album, Argui. He also performs a duet with Maruka on “Ta ser diferenti”, from Maruka’s album Kais di Sabi (2014).

Djoy Amado regularly performs at live venues in Praia with the Banda Bons Amigos (BA Band), of which he has been a member since 2009. The band includes Angelo Andrade, Leno Tavares, Durval Pantxo Barros, and Edson Brito (who joined in 2019).

Since the formation of Terreru (which includes Djinho Barbosa, Calu di Guida, Maruka Tavares, and Jacinto Fernandes, all residing in the USA), he has participated remotely, from Praia.
