Ecos de Cabo Verde
Group – 1970s – (?)
Ecos de Cabo Verde was formed in Brockton, and in its first phase included the keyboardist from Mindelo, Tony Óscar (keys and vocals, ex- Voz de Cabo Verde and ex-Matchona), Manuel Andrade “Mané Criola” (vocals) and Inocêncio do Canto “Duchy” (solo guitar), both from Fogo, and Abílio (guitar and cavaquinho), Camilo (bass) and John Fernandes (drums), from Brava.
They animated spaces in the Cape Verdean community and recorded an LP in 1976, in which most of the songs are by Tony Óscar. The group’s second album, Ecos live! Oak Ame Memorial Hall, February, comes out three years later and the members are Mané Criola (vocals and percussion), John Fernandes (voice and organ), Duchy (solo and rhythm guitars and voice), Bert Cecilio (rhythm guitar), Danny Dias (vocals and bass) and Alberto Teixeira (drums).
The group’s name was inspired by another, created by Vuca Pinheiro in his early days in the USA, who organized lively dances and parties, but left no record.
