Woburn, Massachusetts, USA, 1936 – San Diego, California, USA, 1991

Singer, songwriter

Margo Sylvia was the lead singer of The Tune Weavers, which in 1957 achieved huge success with their first single, which featured the song “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby”, which sold around 2 million copies over the years. The composition was recorded by different performers, such as country music singers Dolly Parton and Ronnie Milsap, Elvis Presley, among others.

This song was written by Margo in partnership with her brother, Gilbert Lopez, with whom, before forming the group, she performed as a duo, according to the Doo Wop blog.

The discography (several singles can be found online), sometimes contains the name of the group and others mention of Margo Sylvia and The Tune Weavers.

Unknown in their country of origin, Margo and Gilbert were the first Cape Verdean descendants to reach such a level of success in the musical market in the USA.
